Girl’s Boho Chic Bedroom

"I created this Boho Chic room for a not-so-little girl, whose two requests insisted upon: aqua blues and a canopy bed with curtains." - Jennifer DeLaurentis

Here are my top five tips on how to achieve a boho chic look in any room.

1. Natural Elements

Boho style often incorporates natural materials such as wood, rattan, wicker, bamboo, jute, and sisal. These materials add warmth, texture, and an organic feel to the space.
I incorporated natural elements throughout this room from the custom natural fiber roman shades, rattan side table, layered jute rug, white oak wood desk top, and seagrass storage baskets.

2. Colorful and Mixed Patterns

Boho decor embraces vibrant and rich colors. Mix and match patterns, such as paisley, batik, tribal prints, floral motifs (as seen in the bed pillows), and geometric designs, to create a lively and eclectic atmosphere.
I especially love the playful Batik wallpaper in this room. It sets the tone for everything else.

3. Textiles

Textiles play a crucial role in boho interiors. Layer different fabrics, including rugs, throws, tapestries, and cushions, with a variety of textures like macrame, velvet, silk, and embroidered fabrics. Look for globally-inspired textiles, like Moroccan or Indian prints.
Here I sourced the Oushak rug from Turkey and the linen fabric for the bed drapes from Lithuania. I also utilized velvet, embroidery, and pom poms for a versatile look.

4. Artistic Displays

Showcase artwork, photographs, and wall hangings that reflect your personal style. Gallery walls, a collection of vintage frames, or a mix of art in various mediums can add an artistic touch to a boho interior.
I used the pin board and book shelves in this room to have some fun with art. I included some positive affirmations, Matisse’s “Japanese Woman”, and some gymnastics artwork that reflect the girl’s colorful personality.

5. Soft and Ambient Lighting

Use soft and warm lighting to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere. Consider incorporating string lights, lanterns, and lamps to add a soft glow and create an ambiance.
This iridescent table lamp fills the space with luminous colors and supercool style. The unique-floral inspired ceiling light’s milk-finished glass casts a dreamy light, and the hand rubbed antique brass wall sconce creates the perfect task lighting for this ambitious student.

Remember, bohemian decor is subjective and open to interpretation. Feel free to adapt and customize the style to suit your preferences while maintaining the essence of eclecticism and creativity.
